Holistic Perspective
Our agricultural practice is not about maximizing productivity but about preserving the health of the plants, their aesthetic and the landscape value, representing a unique heritage for Masseria Carrassa. Achieving this requires an integrated, multidisciplinary, and highly professional approach that goes far beyond traditional olive cultivation.
Our Agricultural practice
Masseria Carrassa” is a historic agricultural estate covering 9 hectares along the coastal area, characterized by a Mediterranean climate and karstic soil, ideal conditions for olive cultivation.
The estate:
- 350 centuries-old olive trees, of various varieties, planted in a mixed arrangement.
- 50 carob trees, also arranged in a mixed planting system.
- A garden with a citrus grove, adjacent to the structure.
We are transitioning to organic production under EU Regulation 2018/848, paying particular attention to respecting the historical, landscape, and environmental context.
Objectives:
Our agronomic practise has been designed to preserve and enhance the natural, historical, and cultural context of "Masseria Carrassa" promoting sustainable organic agriculture that combines tradition with innovation. The interventions aim not only to improve agricultural quality but also to protect the landscape and enhance biodiversity. The adoption of low-impact farming practices, combined with advanced technologies, will position the estate as a model of excellence in sustainability and climate resilience.
Technical management under organic practices:
- Conservation and enhancement of the agroecosystem
- Increase biodiversity
- Soil fertility optimization
Productivity improvement:
- Phytosanitary control and management
- Tourism and landscape enhancement
Challenges and Prospects
The challenges associated with this management plan are manifold and
require high professionalism and advanced agronomic skills. Operating within the framework of organic farming, particularly with century-old plants of historical and landscape value, involves: Rigorous and detailed planning, The use of beneficial microorganisms and innovative agronomic techniques, requiring specialized knowledge for effective application and The ability to address adverse climatic conditions, with increasingly long and dry summers necessitating thoughtful, forward-looking management to ensure plant longevity.
This is not only about maximizing quality but also about preserving the health of the plants and their aesthetic and landscape value, which represent a unique heritage for Masseria Carrassa. Achieving these goals
requires an integrated, multidisciplinary, and highly professional approach that goes far beyond traditional olive cultivation and
ornamental landscape management techniques.
